− | MAYOR – an executive body in the municipality with city rights. He is elected in local government elections that are universal, equal, direct and conducted by secret ballot. The term of office is four years and starts from taking an oath at a municipality council’s meeting. M. is also the body of the first instance in individual cases in the field of public administration, the head of the city office, the supervisor of the local-government employees employed at the city office, the head of the municipal organisational units and the head of the civil registration office. The tasks of the m. also include managing the current city affairs and representing it outside. He manages the field civil defence units and is also responsible for the matters of protection against the effects of natural disasters. The m.r executes resolutions of the city council and the tasks of the city. During executing his duties he is responsible only to city council. The tasks of the m. include: preparation of draft resolutions of the city council; defining the ways of implementing the resolutions of the council; management of municipal property; budget execution; hiring and dismissing managers of municipal organisational units; ordering regulations in cases of urgency.
